President Jahjaga received a delegation of European Parliament Deputies

President of the Republic of Kosovo, Mrs Atifete Jahjaga received today a delegation of the Foreign Affairs Commission (AFET) and Sub-commission for Security and Defence (SEDE) of the European Parliament, headed by Mr. Christian Vigen, who are visiting Kosovo on a fact finding mission.

President Jahjaga informed the Euro deputies with the latest developments in our country, for the ending of the supervision of the independence and progress achieved on Kosovo’s European integrations path. The thanked the European Parliament for the continuous support for Kosovo’s and Region’s integrational processes.

Madam President said that in 2012 Kosovo has made some important steps towards its integration into European Union, as with the publication of Feasibility Study, initiation of the Visa Liberalisation dialogue and Rule of Law dialogue. She underlined that establishment of contractual agreements between the Republic of Kosovo and European Union through the Stabilisation-Association Agreement will have a strong impact for the democratic processes and internal reforms. President Jahjaga expressed the dedication of the institutions of the Republic of Kosovo towards timely fulfilment of all EU obligations.

Speaking in relation to the dialogue with Serbia, President Jahjaga said that dialogue is the only way towards the normalisation of relations between the Republic of Kosovo and Republic of Serbia. She underlined the importance of implementation of agreements reached so far through the dialogue process and asked for the support from the EU institutions in order to obtain the implementation of the agreements from the Republic of Serbia.

President Jahjaga reiterated her position towards the situation in the three northern municipalities in the north of the country, saying that the situation there is intolerable and that it must change. Serbian community in these municipalities must be released from being hostage of the illegal and parallel structures and must orient itself towards a long term solution, such as organisation of elections as per the legislation of the Republic of Kosovo, so that they can elect their legal and legitimate representatives. Our neighbouring country, Serbia, can provide a substantial contribution towards this, by ceasing the financial support for parallel structures and by dismembering these structures. This would be a good light motive towards the normalisation of relations between Republic of Kosovo and Republic of Serbia, and it is also an explicit request made to Serbia by the international community.

Euro deputies, during this meeting, appraised the active and unifying role of the President Jahjaga towards all the democratic processes of Kosovo. They also evaluated that in relation to the institution building aspect, essential for the integration process, President Jahjaga has consolidated the institution of the Presidency and has given to Kosovo a prestigious position in the region.

The delegation of Euro deputies expressed the dedication of the European Parliament to offer the continuous support for the Kosovo’s cause in the European Union. They also stated the regions need for a positive developmental stance, improvement of general atmosphere, in order to make the states of the western Balkans more attractive for the foreign investments and sustainable development.
