President Jahjaga met with the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon

President of the republic of Kosovo, Mrs. Atifete Jahjaga, accompanied by the Prime Minister Mr. Hashim Thaçi, Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Behgjet Pacolli, Foreign Affairs Minister Mr. Enver Hoxhaj and the European Integration Minister Ms. Vlora Çitaku met today at the UN Headquarters in New York with the Secretary General of this organisation, Mr. Ban Ki Moon. Kosovar delegation was also accompanied by Mr. Bekim Sejdiu, Kosovo’s Consul-General in New York.

President Jahjaga classified the Secretary-General’s visit to Kosovo this summer as a very important one by stating that Kosovo is a story of  a joint success, of international partners working together with the citizens and the institutions of Kosovo in state-building process.

Speaking in relation to the ending of the supervisory stage of the independence, President Jahjaga said that the institutions of Kosovo have taken upon themselves the complete responsibilities ,by ensuring that base principles determined by the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence will be applied to all communities. She also said that Kosovo is opening a new chapter as a contributor towards peace and stability in the region.

President Jahjaga stated that Kosovo has a vision for a democratic, peaceful and advanced Balkans and that this can be achieved through integration in Euro-Atlantic institutions, as a joint future of all the Balkan Countries, which would ensure peace in the region.
President Jahjaga, at the meeting with the UN Secretary General spoke about the dialogue with the Republic of Serbia and stated that dialogue is not the best way but it is the only way to normalise relations between the two countries and to establish good neighbourly policies as a precondition to EU integration. Madam President also stated that Republic of Serbia must implement the agreements reached in Brussels in order to pave the way for the continuation of the dialogue on technical issues of mutual interest.

Speaking in relation to the three municipalities in the north of the Republic of Kosovo, President Jahjaga said that illegal and criminal Serbian structures, supported by the Institutions of Serbia, are holding the ethnic Serbian citizens hostage at this part of our country and are encroaching the territorial integrity of our country. President Jahjaga also said that the institutions of the Republic of Kosovo are dedicated to dialogue with the Serbian citizens from the above mentioned areas in order to find solutions for all the issues and in order to help them to integrate in the institutional life of the Republic of Kosovo.

UN Secretary-General Mr. Ban Ki Moon thanked President Jahjaga for her hospitality and for the welcome organised in Kosovo during his visit this last summer and emphasized the importance of the visit and the opportunity it has provided him in order to get more acquainted with the situation in the field. He said that for Kosovo it is important to maintain the stability and said that all issues must be solved in peaceful and orderly manner.

UN Secretary- General Mr. Ban Ki Moon said that the whole region must look towards the Euro-Atlantic integrations and work harder in maintenance of stability and peace and appreciated the role that EU is playing in the whole Balkan region.
