President Atifete Jahjaga and Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi met with Baroness Catherine Ashton

President of the Republic of Kosovo, Mrs. Atifete Jahjaga, and Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Mr. Hashim Thaçi, met today with the EU High Representative for Foreign Policy and Security, Baroness Catherine Ashton.

The meeting was also attended by the European Integrations Minister, Ms. Vlora Çitaku and the Political Coordinator for the dialogue on the normalisation of relations between the Republic of Kosovo and Republic of Serbia, Mr. Blerim Shala.

President of the Republic of Kosovo, Mrs. Atifete Jahjaga, classified Baroness Ashton’s visit as an important one as it contributes towards the understanding of the dialogue process, currently taking place in Brussels and which aims the normalisation of relations between the two states.
President Jahjaga also stated that she has extended her support to the dialogue process as the only solution towards the normalisation of the relations between Kosovo and Serbia, which is in the interest of the citizens of both countries and peace and stability in the region.

She also emphasized that dialogue process has not initiated other issues related to the status or issues that may dissolve the achievements made jointly with the international community and said that agreements reached so far are a solid basis for easing of the lives of the citizens on both sides of the border.

Madam President stated that Kosovo has entered the dialogue process fully dedicated towards improvement of the position of the Serbian community in Kosovo and their integration into the institutional and political life in Kosovo. She also said that we must not compromise on our determination on our request that the Government of Serbia must abolish its illegal and parallel structures in the municipalities of the northern Kosovo, as they are holding hostage the lives of the citizens of the ethnic Serbian origin.

President Jahjaga stated that Kosovo has shown its constructiveness and flexibility allowed by its legal and constitutional framework and emphasized that it is important that such agreements are successfully implementable.

Madam President reiterated that she gives her full support to the dialogue process and said that there is a great importance in the fact that solutions agreed upon are long term and final ones and that will not in any manner infringe upon the functionality of Kosovo.

President Jahjaga emphasized that the independence and territorial integrity of Kosovo cannot be negotiated and there is no turning back. According to Madam President, it is Kosovo’s desire to consolidate even further its international standing and to bring itself as close to EU as possible.

Madam President emphasized the importance of Kosovo’s receipt of positive signals issued by EU on the Visa liberalisation process and Stabilisation Association Agreement.

EU’s High Representative for Foreign Policy and Security, Baroness Ashton, emphasized the importance of the dialogue process on finding of solutions and praised the constructive stance shown by parties in this process.

She also stated that considerable advances have been achieved in this process and emphasized the importance of the implementation of all agreements reached so far.
