Macedonia is a strategic partner for Kosovo

The President of the Republic of Kosovo Behgjet Pacolli and the delegation accompanying him met today with the President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia Mr. Trajko Velanovski.

Mr. Velanovski said at the meeting that good relations with neighbouring countries were a priority for the Republic of Macedonia and that Macedonian institutions attached a special weight to the relations with the Republic of Kosovo.

“Relations between Republic of Macedonia and Republic of Kosovo are at a high level in both political and economic terms and institutional leaders and politicians are obliged to help boost relations further” – he said.

Mr. Velanovski reminded that the Assembly of Macedonia had ratified ten interstate agreements and other agreements between Macedonia and Kosovo were due.

He also said that the Assembly of Macedonia had established a working group on cooperation with the Assembly of Kosovo and expected that the Assembly of Kosovo would also establish such a group.

“Parliaments are very important to integration processes” Mr. Velanovski said, offering the entire experience of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia to the Assembly and other institutions of Kosovo in all fields of common interest.

At the meeting, the President of the Republic of Kosovo Behgjet Pacolli reaffirmed very good relations between the two countries, expressing his readiness to contribute to further intensification of relations and to a higher growth.

“Macedonia is a strategic partner to Kosovo. Cooperation between Republic of Kosovo and Republic of Macedonia is an example to others” – President Pacolli said, highlighting the need to engage further in providing better opportunities to all the peoples of both countries.

President Pacolli also pointed out that the Assembly of Kosovo would soon establish a working group on cooperation with the Parliament of Macedonia, so as to increase cooperation between the two institutions.
