Osmani: The participation of women in the dialogue process is a necessary and wise decision

Acting President, Dr. Vjosa Osmani participated in the virtual conference “The Future of the Agenda for Women, Peace, Security and Justice in Kosovo and beyond”.

This conference is being held on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security, concurring with the launching of the Kosovo branch of the Mediterranean Network of Women Mediators (MEWMN)

Congratulating the organizers and participants for their tireless work to the advancement of the engagement of women and girls in peace, security and justice processes in Kosovo, Acting President Osmani stressed that this conference is also a good opportunity to “reflect and identify what we can do to further strengthen our actions in order to meet our commitments under Resolution 1325.”

Further on, Acting President Osmani pointed out that “Women in Kosovo have historically been and continue to be a pillar of our society.” However, their role is often marginalized, the appraisal of their contribution has not been bright as it should and their engagement in today's processes, crucial to the future of our country, is still far from the desired levels.

Emphasizing the engagement of women in the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Acting President said that “Currently, the participation of women in the dialogue still remains at worryingly low levels. And we must be clear that the participation of women in the dialogue process is not only a necessary decision, but also a wise decision, and above all, it is a testament to the commitment to respect the objectives of Resolution 1325 “.

The conference, which is continuing its proceedings, was attended by representatives of local institutions, embassies and international organizations.
