President Thaçi is awarded by the Pontifical Academy with “Premio Bonifacio” for his commitment to peace

Anagni, Italy, December 03 – The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, is decorated with the award “Premio Bonifacio” by the Pontifical Academy “Accademia Bonifaciana” in Anagni, Italy, for his contribution to peace.

President Thaçi, after accepting the award, said that he was pleased that Kosovo is now working for peace in the region, although there are still open wounds from the war.
 
“Kosovo today is a source of peace and stability in the entire region”, said President Thaçi and added that “the people of Kosovo will always be grateful for the support it has received during the time of war as well as in building peace in the country”.
 
The Pontifical Academy “Accademia Bonifaciana” was established in 2003 and aims to promote the culture of peace in the world. The Institute is named after Pope Bonifacio VIII who was from Anagni, Italy.
 
The Governing Board of the Academy at the beginning of each academic year organizes the national and international awards ceremony for different personalities who have been distinguished for their performance, contribution and commitment to peace in the world.
 
In previous editions Pope St. John Paul II, the former President of the European Parliament, Jerzy Karol Buzek, Nobel Prize winner Italian senator Rita Levi Montalcini, senator and former Italian Prime Minister Guilio Andreotti, etc. have been honored with this award.
