President Thaçi discussed with the Consultative Council on the Protection of the Rights of Communities

Prishtine, 21 December 2017 –ThePresident of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, today convened the Consultative Council for Communities.

President Thaçi stated that he has closely followed the work of the Consultative Council and has commended them for engaging in improving the legal framework in Kosovo, where community rights are better promoted and protected.

“The engagement in promoting the Law on Protection from Discrimination was of particular importance, empowering the role of women in society and on education issues for communities”, stressed President Thaçi.

He has also supported the request of the Consultative Council for Communities to increase the budget.

“We will work with relevant institutions that next year you will have a budget that best suits your needs”, he said.

The Head of the State added that the dialogue among all communities in Kosovo is his priority.

“I am pleased to note that during this year we have managed to promote even more the dialogue between communities. It is worth mentioning here the establishment of the Preparatory Team for the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. This institution will promote dialogue between Kosovo's communities and will engage in closing the chapter of war for all communities. Better life is built by agreeing to coexistence, cooperation, partnership between us all”, stressed the President.

The country's president has said that next year we will mark the tenth anniversary of the state of Kosovo.

“This celebration will be a celebration of all Kosovo's communities. I invite you to become part of the preparations for marking this important date for Kosovo. Communities are our wealth. We are proud of building a state on the principles of equality and rights guaranteed for all communities”, stated President Thaçi.

He told members of the Consultative Council for Communities that community rights are guaranteed by the Kosovo Constitution, which refers to all relevant international documents for the protection and promotion of community rights.

President Thaçi stressed that the Consultative Council for Communities is also an important mechanism for the implementation of these rights, therefore, the work done for the communities and for all  Kosovo is very important.
