President Thaçi awarded the Presidential Jubilee Medal to Anthropologist Berit Backer

Prishtina, May 14th 2018 – President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, awarded post humousely, the Presidential Jubilee Medal to the Norwegian anthropologist, Berit Becker.

President Thaçi said that Anthropologist Berit Becker was one of the first voices to loudly speak about the denied rights of the Albanians in Kosovo.

“She was one of the first voices which spoke about Kosovo and for the rights denied to Albanians in former Yugoslavia. We must remind ourselves on how difficult it was to speak out at that time in such a context, about Albanians and about Kosovo”, said President Thaçi.

The head of state stated that he is delighted that he, in the capacity of the President of the Republic of Kosovo, is able to post-humousely award the anthropologist Berit Becker for her contribution to the freedom and independence of Kosovo.

“We are grateful to her family, to the state and people of Norway for the support and friendship” added President Thaçi.

Norwegian anthropologist Berit Becker, has dedicated a large part of her carrier path to Albanians.

On behalf of the Becker family, the award was received by the Norwegian Ambassador to Kosovo, Per Strand Sjaastad, together with the initiative group consisting of Nufri Lekaj, Ann Christine Ekk and Shkelzen Kukleci.
